Kia ora, I’m William Liu

William Liu received his master and PhD degrees in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Canterbury (UC), New Zealand in 2005 and 2010, respectively. He is currently with the School of Computing, Electrical and Applied Technologies, Unitec Institute of Technology, as well as he has been working for 12+ years in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE), School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences (SECMS), Aucklnad University of Technology (AUT), New Zealand. He had been working as a network planner and designer in Beijing Telecom in China for 5+ years after he achieved his Bachelor in Telecommunication Engineering at the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Beijing, in 1997. He had immigrated to New Zealand in 2002. He has strong research interests in cybersecurity including information and network security, trust and self-sovereign-identities (i.e., blockchain or more generalized as the distributed ledger) based cyber-physical systems; sustainable communications, networking and computing, network architectures to reduce the digital divide in rural and low-income areas, disaster communications and networking, Internet of Things (IoT) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) communications and networking, cloud and edge computing, big data networking, software defined networking, intelligent transportation systems, as well as curing Internet addictions with Internet intelligence. He has coauthored more than 100 papers published in international journals and conferences, and he participates in the program committees of several premier IEEE conferences including INFOCOM, GLOBECOM, ICC, GreenCom, CloudNet, DRCN, RNDM, and ATNAC. He is the Founding Chair of IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) New Zealand North Chapter. He is the current Chair of IEEE New Zealand North Section Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (SIGHT). He has been a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Green Communications and Computing (TCGCC) since 2011, a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Big Data (TCBD) since 2015, and a member of the New Zealand Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Tertiary Education Centre (STEM-TEC) since 2014.
